Correia Battles Holm as UFC Underdog
Bethe Correia will be looking to begin the long climb back into the top five in the UFC women’s bantamweight rankings on Saturday when she takes on former champion Holly Holm in the main event at UFC Fight Night 111 as a +375 underdog on the betting lines.
Correia sits at No. 11 in the rankings going into Saturday’s matchup at Singapore Indoor Stadium following a frustrating majority draw against Marion Reneau at UFC Fight Night 106.
Correia’s slide began with her first career loss, a first-round knockout by Ronda Rousey as a +750 underdog at UFC 190, and continued with a split decision loss to Raquel Pennington as a +175 underdog at UFC on Fox 19.
The 33-year-old Brazilian rebounded to claim a split decision win over Jessica Eye at UFC 203 as -135 chalk and has gone the distance in four of her six UFC clashes, but will be competing in a five-round contest for just the second time in her pro career.
Holm sits as the No. 5 women’s bantamweight challenger on the UFC rankings despite falling to defeat in her past three fights.
The Preacher’s Daughter suffered her first professional MMA loss in her first defense of the UFC women’s bantamweight crown she took from Rousey at UFC 193, losing by rear-naked choke to Miesha Tate at UFC 196 as a -310 favorite.
Holm followed up by going the distance in the UFC on Fox 20 main event, losing a unanimous decision to Valentina Shevchenko as a -225 bet. She also dropped a unanimous decision to Germanie de Randamie as a +105 underdog in a fight for the inaugural UFC women’s featherweight title, falling to 2-3 in five career five-round fights.
Dos Anjos the Favorite vs. Saffiedine
Another former champion looks to end a losing slide in Singapore as former UFC lightweight champion Rafael do Anjos takes on Tarec Saffiedine in a welterweight matchup as -280 chalk.
RDA needed a unanimous decision to defeat Anthony Pettis for the title at UFC 185, and knocked out Donald Cerrone as -195 chalk at UFC on Fox 17 in his lone successful defense before losing the crown to Eddie Alvarez by first-round TKO at UFC Fight Night 90, and suffering a five-round unanimous decision loss to Tony Ferguson as -150 chalk at UFC Fight Night 98.
A +220 underdog against dos Anjos, Saffiedine has lost two straight but has gone the distance in 13 of his past 15 fights.
